Preview content as another user
Who can do this:
- Anyone with viewing permission for the Homescreen and Users
- Additionally, if logging in as another user, editing permission for Users is required
Curious about how content looks to another user or Group?
Here are a couple of ways to preview content as another user.
See how content looks in the app to another user, without logging into their account.
To switch views:
- In the dashboard, go to the mobile or desktop view.
- Next to the View window, if there are overrides, click the x to reset the layout.
- In the View window, start typing the user's name to select it from the dropdown.
- If the user belongs to a Group or Team with a unique layout, the layout loads and a dialog notifies you of the switch.
- In the layout, select the content you want to view.
- Once finished, enter your username in the View window, to switch back.
How can I quickly access the settings for this layout?
The small layout structure icon above the View window indicates which layout you're currently viewing. Click the icon to open the Structure & settings page.
Temporarily log in as another user to see their view of content in the app, while staying logged into your own account.
To log in as another user:
- Go to Admin ➤ Users and select a user from the list.
- This open's the user's profile.
- Select Get login link.
- Open a new private window and paste (ctrl + v) the URL in the address bar.
- Select the content you want to view and once finished, select Log out.
- Return to your regular browser window, where you're logged in as yourself.
Why do I need to open a private window?
Using a private window allows you to stay logged into your account at the same time. The cookies from your regular browsing window won't transfer to the private window, helping to avoid login errors.
