Creating Rewards allows you to boost engagement by giving users incentives for various interactions within the Refresh app.

To give incentives, you can set up a Reward that employees receive for:

  • Redeeming points they have collected for various Challenges
  • Completing a specific Challenge (completion)
  • Receiving a Rave (recognition)

Like app content, Rewards can be time-limited and only available to selected groups, offering flexibility for special occasions or Challenge milestones.

Types

Depending on the Reward you want to give, it will fall into one of two types, below.

Gift card (auto-fulfilled)

This is a gift card of a cash value you specify, which is automatically given for you via Refresh, and billed to your organization later.

How do I establish a budget limit?

Reach out to the Refresh Customer Success team if you haven't set up gift cards yet. Provide details about your budget and preferred cards, such as Amazon, Home Depot, Walmart, or others.

Self-run (manual)

This is a Reward you choose, which you manage and fulfill yourself. You purchase it and coordinate how employees will receive it, whether via email or in-person. The Reward you give could be as simple or as creative as you wish:

  • Company swag
  • Training opportunity
  • Catered breakfast
  • Event tickets
  • Fitness pass
  • Recognition (such as their photo on a wall of fame)
  • Paid time off

What if I want to give my own gift cards directly?

To do this, rather than selecting Gift card (auto-fulfilled), which goes through Refresh, you'll select the Self-run (manual) option.

Paths

Gift cards (auto-fulfilled) and Self-run (manual) Rewards can be given to employees via two different paths. Choose whether they get the Reward on redeeming points, or upon reaching a trigger. These paths, described below, are selected in the Rewards setup.

Points redemption

Points redemption allows you to reward employees when they redeem a specific number of points (points cost) that you set. This process involves:

  • Awarding points, whether for completions or Raves.
  • Setting point costs for Rewards when you add a Reward.
  • Employees redeeming their points via the app.
  • Viewing a list of redemptions in the dashboard.

Triggered Reward

This path allows you to give a Reward automatically upon a trigger, whether that's a completing a specific Challenge or receiving a Rave. No points are required for this.

How do I get notified when Rewards are redeemed?

Whatever the Reward type or path, you have the option to be notified by email when your Reward is redeemed, in the Reward setup.

Homescreen view

Users can check their available Rewards by locating the Gift icon in the top-right corner of the homescreen. Both the point balance and available Rewards are visible in the top-right corner of the Challenges section.
