Place Content, Features, & Menus
Who can do this:
- Anyone with editing permissions for the Homescreen
- Additionally, the HS Sections (editable) permission is required to edit existing sections and create Display tags
When you set up Sections, you can place Content, Feature, or Menu blocks within them. The options for each are shown below.
*Rave Forms (Recognition), Video Library, and Marketplaces are features that can be configured and placed into a Section as Content.
Before you place a Content, Feature, or Menu block in a Section, if using a grid layout, make sure you have enough slots available.
To place a block:
- In the layout editor, in an available slot, click Add +.
- Select the option you want:
What if I have more blocks than the grid layout allows?
If you've increased the number of grid slots and still don't have enough space, the Mini list layout option allows you to pack in more items.
Refer to the description of each option, below.
A Section with Include content enabled allows you to place Content blocks within it, control which items appear (by Display tag or Type), and choose a sorting method.
A Display tag is a label based on the name of a Section and helps differentiate one from another. You can then assign Display tags to content items, to organize them within Sections of the layout.
When both a Section and content item have matching Display tags, the content will appear within that Section.
For example, if you wanted only fitness-related content to appear in a Section you would set up a Display tag called Fitness. Then, assign the Fitness Display tag to all content you want to appear in that area.
Why is my content not showing up in the content chooser or layout?
There could be a few reasons, such as the content is disabled (expired), or may not match your availability. Refer to the symbols in the content chooser for the reason why. For more troubleshooting, see Check content visibility.
An alternative to using a Display tag is to pull content into a Section based on Type. Options include:
- Media
- Forms
- Form flows
- Sequences
- Video libraries
- All
Since this pulls all items of one type of content, you may need to disable (expire) any content you don't want pulled into the layout. Once disabled, you can still access them in the list view, where you can enable them again.
Whether you place Content blocks by Display tag or Type, choose a sort order:
- Oldest first
- Newest first
- Alphabetical order
- Custom sort
When you use any of the first three sort types, the first Content block you add to a Section becomes the starting point of your content items. Any additional Content blocks you add stay together with the first block, and automatically sort by the order you set above. This is illustrated below.
How do you change the position of content cluster?
If you've set a specific order, you can reposition a cluster of Content blocks within a Section by using the Swap option to switch it with Feature or Menu blocks.
Feature blocks can be either links to modules within the app, with their own interface, or links to external websites. Feature blocks within a Section can be manually moved into any order.
What features are available to depends on your organization's setup. For more on this, refer to content vs features.
A Menu block, shown below, links to a sub-menu where other Sections with Content, Feature, or Menu blocks can be placed. Menu blocks are also used to link to a module for a feature, and consist of the following:
- Title
- Description
- Icon
- Image (background or poster)
