Tags and hierarchy are segmentation tools that determine who sees what and where content appears in your app. These work together as shown in the diagram below.

Here's a breakdown:

|                     | **Assignment**                                                                    | **Determines**               |
| ------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------- |
| **User tags**       | User tags are assigned to individual users and then content.                      | What content can a user see? |
| **Display tags**    | Display tags are assigned to sections in the layout and then content.             | Where does content appear?   |
| **Hierarchy&#x20;** | Users are assigned to groups (or teams) and each group may have its own layout.\* | What layout does a user see? |

Like tags, a hierarchical structure lets you assign content to multiple users, but with the added ability to control which layout a user sees.
