By default, your Refresh app uses a web address such as **yourorganization.app.refreshplatform.com**.

For a more branded experience, you can use a custom subdomain, such as app.yourorganization.org. A subdomain is an extension of your organization's existing domain (yourorganization.org).

## Why use a custom subdomain?

A custom subdomain is recommended for a few reasons:

- **Consistent branding:** Users access your app through your organization's own domain.
- **No additional domain required: **Your organization retains ownership and control of its existing domain and DNS settings.
- **Direct access: **Your app loads without redirects, helping avoid potential performance and compatibility issues.
- **Server compatibility:** Refresh requires a subdomain (such as app.) rather than a root domain to load your app correctly.

To set this up you'll need assistance from your IT administrator or whoever manages your organization's DNS settings.

## How to set up your subdomain

Your organization's IT administrator or whoever manages your website's DNS settings will need to assist with the setup.

**Step 1: Choose your subdomain**

We recommend using **app.yourorganization.org**, where app is added before your organization's existing domain.

Refresh requires a subdomain (such as **app.**) to load your organization's app correctly, rather than using the root domain (yourorganization.org) directly.

You can choose a different prefix if preferred (e.g., **connect**.yourorganization.org).

**Step 2: Confirm your subdomain with Refresh**

Share your preferred subdomain with the Refresh team so we can begin configuring it for your organization.

**Step 3: Configure your DNS settings**

Refresh will provide the DNS configuration details for your IT administrator.

Your IT administrator will need to add the required DNS record to point your subdomain to the Refresh app server.

**Step 4: Verify your subdomain**

Once your DNS settings have been updated, notify the Refresh team. We'll verify the configuration and confirm when your custom subdomain is ready to use.
