Challenges in Refresh let you motivate and reward employees for participating in meaningful activities—whether it's reading something, exercising, or filling out a survey.

You can create and schedule challenges, choose who can participate, set timeframes, and award points for completion, all while keeping motivation high.

# Examples of Challenge activities

Here are just a few ideas of what you can turn into a challenge:

- Reading an article
- Reaching a fitness goal
- Watching a training video
- Sending a rave to a co-worker
- Attending an event, workshop, or class

# Challenge setup options

Each challenge includes settings for:

- **Goal: **What participants need to do to complete it.
- **Timeframe**: Fixed dates, ongoing, or looking back.
- **Availability:** Who can see and participate (based on groups, teams, or tags.
- **Award points:** Choose how many points are given upon completion.

# Challenge types

You can create three main types of challenges in Refresh, outlined below.

### App Views

Set up a challenge to encourage employees to engage with specific content in the app, like a video, news, or written content.

### Self-Reporting

Let users complete a form to confirm they’ve completed an activity, such as reading a book, doing yoga, or volunteering. Optionally, request additional proof, such as a photo or signature.

### Step Tracking

Set physical activity goals, such as daily step counts, tracked via device sensors (like Apple Health or Google Fit).

# Use templates from the Playbook

Jump-start your program with ready-to-go challenge templates, including:

- **5,000 steps a day: **Create a step count goal of 5,000 steps or more.
- **Read all about It: **Post to the newsfeed and get employees to read it.
- **Get to class: **Use this to encourage attendance at a class or event.
- **Office friend: **Encourage employees to recognize a co-worker.

# How Challenges appear in the app

Employees can access the challenges section from the homescreen to view:

- Active and upcoming challenges
- Their completion status and rewards
- Placement and leaderboards (via the Leaders tab)

Click below (Mobile or Desktop) to see how they appear in the app.

Clicking on each tab displays the following:

- **Personal**: Shows their personal placement and score.
- **Leaders**: Displays the top 10 participants with their placement and score. For solo challenges, scores aren’t shown. If there are more than 10 leaders, only the total number of participants appears.
- **Time period**: Displays leaders by day, week, month, or year for recurring challenges, or the start and end dates for custom periods.

**How do I control the visibility of a challenge?**

Setting [Show/hide dates](docId\:Hy3r5JpVPh-zIAMvHsry8) dates lets you control when a challenge appears and disappears from the challenges section.
